My first exposure to yoga happened in the late 90s after I bought a VHS copy of the White Lotus Foundation's Total Yoga. It's funny for me to think back on it now because this completely spontaneous purchase changed my life! I practiced with Ganga White and Tracy Rich via video for years until I got up the nerve to seek out a class at Seven Stones. Sarah Filzen was my first teacher and I remember what a wake up call it was for me! I went in thinking I was so adept and then quickly discovered that the reason everything seemed so easy was because I had no grasp of alignment or proper breathwork. I began to take Sarah's "Intro to Ashtanga" class regularly until I decided to get my certification in 2004 at FYB Yoga Teacher Training in Mequon. FYB stressed "the person not the pose" and set me up with a solid foundation in multi level instruction by combining the philosophies of Ashtanga, Iyengar, Viniyoga and Yin. My heart has always been rooted in Ashtanga but my classes tend to be vinyasa flow appropriate for individuals of all abilities. Students can expect to be challenged while focusing on alignment, breath and modifications as needed.
When I'm not teaching yoga, I am an apparel patternmaker at Florence Eiseman Company where I am part of a teamto making whimsical, luxury childrenswear. I live in Bay View with my talented artist husband and my spirited one-of-a-kind daughter. I can be found on Instagram as @pamcakeyoga where I document my yogic (and other) adventures. I am beyond thrilled to be teaching at Healium Hot Yoga with a dream team staff which includes my first teacher (and dear friend) Sarah Filzen!
